Paramount just dropped seventeen new character posters for the Street Fighter reboot, and honestly, the roster is a total nostalgia trip. It’s basically a roll call of the OG arcade icons: Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and the rest of the World Warriors are all present, alongside later favorites like Cammy and Akuma.
The cast list is just as stacked (and slightly chaotic), featuring everyone from Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji to… 50 Cent and Cody Rhodes? It’s a wild mix. Director Kitao Sakurai is taking us back to 1993, following Ryu (Koji) and Ken (Centineo) as they get pulled into the tournament by Chun-Li (Liang). Naturally, there’s a lot more than just a trophy on the line.
I’ll be real: the trailers give off “overstuffed” energy. It looks messy, goofy, and unapologetically campy. But honestly? That might be its greatest strength.
Sakurai seems to be leaning hard into the absurdity of the source material. From the hyper-accurate costumes to the “so bad it’s good” tone, the film is clearly aiming for fun. I know that’s a dirty word in some film circles lately, but for a franchise built on a green electric beast and a guy who stretches his limbs like taffy, “fun” is exactly the right target.
Release Date: Street Fighter hits theatres on October 16th.
What’s your take is this going to be a glorious mess or a genuine blast? Take a look at the posters below and let me know if you’re actually hyped for this.
